Tampa, FL – Neil Shaw, DVM, DACVIM of Florida Veterinary Specialists & Cancer Treatment Center (FVS) has been honored in the 2006 University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine alumni council’s Distinguished Awards program.
Dr. Shaw, a 1993 graduate of the college, received the Alumni Achievement award for his outstanding personal and professional contributions to veterinary medicine. He completed his residency in small animal medicine at UF in 1996, becoming board-certified in that specialty the following year. Dr. Shaw is co-founder and medical director of FVS, a 50+ Veterinarian specialty referral and emergency hospital in Tampa. He is also a past president of the Hillsborough County Veterinary Medical Association.
“For many years, Neil has been extremely active and involved with local county authorities, animal services and animal welfare organizations in promoting the interests of the veterinary profession and the welfare of the animal population,” wrote Arthur M. Simon, DVM, in a letter supporting Dr. Shaw’s nomination.
The award was presented May 27 at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Gainesville, during college commencement exercises.
About the Alumni Achievement Award: Alumni Achievement Award (given annually, assuming adequate nominations). Criteria: Outstanding personal and professional contributions to veterinary science or one of its branches, to veterinary practice in any of its forms, or service to mankind and the advancement of human welfare. Must be a graduate of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M., M.S., or Ph.D.), or completed internship, residency training, or post doctoral training at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine.
