State-of-the-Art Veterinary Specialty Hospital Comes to NYC

New York City, NY, November 9, 2005 -- A brand new animal emergency and specialty hospital is coming to Manhattan. Opening in Summer 2006, doctors at New York City Veterinary Specialists and Cancer Treatment Center will develop strong relationships with referring veterinarians in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, to provide the best care possible for patients. “This facility will work very closely with their practices,” according to Dr. Neil Shaw, Medical Director.

Initial specialties at the 20,000 square foot facility will include: Surgery, Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Dermatology and more. “We will have the only Linear Accelerator for veterinary patients in New York City,” adds Dr. Shaw. “This uses radiation therapy to treat cancer in pets, the same as it does in people.” New York City Veterinary Specialists and Cancer Treatment Center will also have a dedicated ICU, digital radiology and radioiodine treatment for cats. “Specifically in Manhattan, it will have an emergency service with experienced doctors available at all hours. That currently does not exist.” The facility will also serve as a community resource for veterinarians, including a conference center for lectures and seminars.

The success of Florida Veterinary Specialists and Cancer Treatment Center in Tampa prompted local veterinarians in New York City to reach out to founder, Neil Shaw, DVM, DACVIM. “They asked if we could assist in developing an emergency and specialty hospital that would work closely with their practices. Florida Veterinary Specialists is acknowledged by the University of Florida as being a pioneer in the industry. It’s also recognized as the premiere referral center for the state. We provide the utmost attention to client care and service, so it’s very exciting that we will take the policies and principles developed in Florida and bring them to the greatest city in the world.”

New York City Veterinary Specialists and Cancer Treatment Center will be located at the corner of 9th and 55th, in New York City.
