Tampa, FL, September 12, 2005--Alan Spier, DVM, PhD has joined the staff at Florida Veterinary Specialists (FVS) and Cancer Treatment Center in Tampa. Dr. Spier’s arrival marks the first time the specialty will be headed by a veterinary cardiologist and he is the first veterinary cardiologist to have become established in the Tampa Bay area. Dr. Spier will treat a multitude of heart diseases in dogs and cats, often performing diagnostic ultrasounds of the heart (echocardiograms) and even installing pacemakers. As with all other specialty cases presented to FVS, Dr. Spier will see appointments by referrals from the family veterinarian.
Dr. Spier, originally from Texas, obtained his Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas and earned his veterinary degree from Texas A&M University. He completed a small animal internship at Kansas State University, followed by a cardiology residency and PhD at The Ohio State University. He comes to FVS after serving three years on faculty as head of Cardiology at the University of Missouri. He and his family are excited about their move to Florida and look forward to enjoying all the area has to offer.

Specialty services include: dermatology, neurology, internal medicine, oncology, ophthalmology, radiology, surgery acupuncture and more. It’s located at 3000 Busch Lake Blvd. in Tampa. The emergency service is accessible 24 hours a day when a regular veterinarian is not available. FVS provides after-hours, weekend and holiday emergency services for many veterinary practices.
