(March 11-13)
Florida State Fairgrounds. Get “pet personal” advice on everything from training and pest control to emergency planning and communicating with your furry friend!
Tampa, FL, March 4, 2005 – There’s no waiting at the Vet’s office to get your pet questions answered! Many local pet experts will be under one roof at the “Spring Training for Pet Owners” feature at Florida’s Largest Spring Home Show. It takes place March 11-13 at the Florida State Fairgrounds. Among the expert advice is preparing for hurricane season. ”We should have learned our lessons from last year and we need to take a good look at being ready this year,” says Connie Brooks, SPCA Shelter Manager. Last season, the lack of evacuation shelters for pets, came as a big surprise to many people, according to Connie. Some pet owners were even stranded without necessary pet prescriptions. “I will explain to pet owners everything they need for all types of situations, including: hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding and even chemical accidents.” Spring is also a great time to think about flea and tick control.“ Everybody thinks there are no fleas in Florida,” according to Dr. Nadine Znajda of Florida Veterinary Specialists. But, that’s a misconception. Dr. Znajda will educate pet owners about protecting pooches and other pets from pests. Of course, when it comes to at home etiquette, some canines are just destructive dogs. So, Bark Busters Home Dog Training will offer tips on training your mischievous mutt to be a well-behaved buddy! “If we don’t show dogs the leadership they need, they will take it upon themselves to train us,“ according to Jeff Drier of Bark Busters. Jeff will teach dog owners how to become “leader of the pack.” Some pet lovers may want to understand their furry friend better. Judie Herman, Animal Communicator can help! She says pet owners need to create a partnership with their animals, and she’ll be able to show visitors how it’s done. And, she’s not limited to your typical companions. Judie says, “The most unusual animal I’ve communicated with, is a blind hedgehog named Rose.” And, if you need more words of wisdom, the “Ask the Vet” feature will allow people to ask ANY pet related question to experienced veterinarians from Florida veterinary Specialists. Of course, in addition to meeting the experts, those looking for a friend, can adopt a pet. Visitors will also be entertained by K-9 demonstrations and see the very latest in pet products. It’s a booming biz! America's love affair with pets has created a $34 billion dollar a year industry, according to MSNBC. And, “Spring Training for Pet Owners” will be a one-stop shop for pet lovers! Florida’s Largest Spring Home Show takes place March 11-13 at the Florida State Fairgrounds. Friday and Saturday 11:00 a.m.– 8:00 p.m. Sunday, 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. (Note: Pet area exhibitors may close at 5 p.m. each day) Admission: Adults-$7, Seniors-$6, Children under 12– Free with adult.
