Allison Shreve, DVM

Emergency Medicine

Dr. Shreve’s interest in veterinary medicine was unplanned.  It began in the early 1990’s when she became a volunteer at a wildlife sanctuary as a way to balance her career as an air traffic controller.  Volunteering led to a wildlife rehabilitation permit which, in turn, fostered the desire to acquire the knowledge and skills of a veterinarian.  While attending the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine she learned both small and large animal medicine as well as expanding her wildlife interest into the full realm of avian and exotics.

Following graduation Dr. Shreve was an intern for a year at the Wildlife Center of Virginia.  She then moved to Fort Lauderdale to become a staff veterinarian at the Wildlife Care Center which is not only a wildlife hospital but, a shelter and adoption agency for avian and exotic pets.  It is there that she met and treated her first emu and got to use her limited large animal education for pigs and goats.  Prior to joining the emergency team at FVS she was an associate veterinarian at VCA Tampa Bay Animal Hospital.

Dr. Shreve shares her home with 2 humans, 1 dog, 10 cats, 2 rabbits, 1 Quaker parakeet, and a Greek tortoise; however, numbers and species are always subject to change.
